The purpose of this role is to support the Australia Business Development & Marketing function, through the delivery and execution of a diverse range of client, practice and marketing programs and initiatives.

In this role you will work together with the local, regional and global Client & Market Development (CMD) and Brand, Communications & Marketing (BCM) teams, partners, lawyers and other stakeholders.

Clifford Chance seeks a Business Development & Marketing Executive to help co-ordinate and proactively drive forward the business development and marketing strategy for our Sydney and Perth offices.

The Australia Business Development & Marketing team, based in Sydney, is responsible for helping partners to develop the firm's business, build its relationships with existing and potential clients and also manage the firm's market profile.

Areas of Focus:

  • Support the Australian Partners and lawyers across a range of business development and marketing initiatives including, but not limited to, pitching, research projects, client relationship support, award submissions and event planning.
  • Support the Australia BD & Marketing Manager on the execution of operational initiatives of practices, clients and sectors
  • Co-ordinate submissions to the main legal directories and advise practices on promoting their capabilities to these directories
  • Support the regional CMD team when needed on over-flow pitches across all practice groups and sector initiatives
  • Operate as a trusted advisor to the fee earners

You will be a critical member of a small Australia team that works across the country. You will liaise directly with partners, lawyers and other Business Services Professionals. You will work very closely with the Asia Pacific CMD and BCM teams.

This is a hands-on role that requires quick and accurate work. Key attributes are a genuine enthusiasm to be a part of a busy team, an ability to prioritise, willingness and ability to take ownership of tasks with strong attention to detail and a proactive and positive mindset.

You will be enthusiastic, engaging and considered, with the ability to build relationships across many levels of business. You must be a proven collaborator, a strong team player and be comfortable taking ownership of the tasks at hand.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a global partnership or professional services firm with a strong focus on technical writing.

Profile

The purpose of this role is to support the Australia Business Development & Marketing function, through the delivery and execution of a diverse range of client, practice and marketing programs and initiatives.

In this role you will work together with the local, regional and global Client & Market Development (CMD) and Brand, Communications & Marketing (BCM) teams, partners, lawyers and other stakeholders.

Prepare advanced draft legal directories and award submissions for practice areas and sectors with input from fee earners across Australia.

Relationship building:

• Develop strong relationships with the fee earners across multiple practice areas.

• Develop equally strong relationships across the APAC (and global as appropriate) CMD and BCM team so that you can effectively connect with the wider network.

• Develop good relationships across all areas of Business Services - HR, Finance, EAs.

Pitches, proposals and capability statements:

• Assist with proposals, pitches, capability statements with fee earners and other business functions to produce key materials in PowerPoint, Word, etc.

• Support the pitching process, delivering market analysis to assist partners to assess new opportunities.

• Maintain up to date Australia materials.

• Track pitch outcomes and produce win/loss reporting.

Events

• Support on activities relating to client events (including guest list, co-ordination of slides, management of speakers and logistics).

• Important to be able to work efficiently with the wider facilities and business services team on both internal and external events.

Other additional support as required

This could encompass, but will not be limited to:

• Delivering on adhoc admin requirements which arise within the BD & Marketing team.

• Encouraging BD best practice across the Australian offices

• Being a champion for the various systems we have in place and encouraging fee earners to engage with these systems

• Responding to adhoc BD requests from APAC fee earners and APAC CMD on a range of topics and needs in relation to Australia (experience, CVs, rankings etc.)
Sk i lls and Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in a similar role
  • Previous experience with legal directories would be highly preferable
  • Writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of working in a global partnership, preferably law firm
  • Proficiency with systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InterAction Vuture and Eventogy
  • Proficiency with audio and video editing preferred
  • Practical, proactive, commercially minded and service driven with a "can do" and positive attitude
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Sensitive to different business cultures
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Builds strong effective relationships with partners and BD colleagues across the firm
